Gargi College was established in 1967. It is the college for women and offers courses in Art, Science, Commerce and Education. It has nine departments namely Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology, Zoology and the Women’s Development Centre. It has a successful placement and internship process with national and multinational companies. An additional interdisciplinary course, B.A. (Hons) Business Economics, was introduced in 2007. In 2004 UGC conferred on the college the title, College with Potential for Excellence and bestowed a special grant to undertake research and community service projects. In 2009 the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, GOI awarded STAR College Grant.
