Yogi Vemana University is recently established in Kadapa district with its West Campus situated at Idupulapaya. The University was a part of Sri Venketeswara University, Tirupati. The Univerity was named after the renowned Telugu poet, Yogi Vemana, a sage of all time. He was a social reformer, thinker and philosopher.
The West campus of the University is built on the 312 acres of land donated by Late Dr.Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. It is the modern Gurukul of 21st century.
The University is of semi-residential type and has unitary status that has huge potential for phenomenal academic growth in the disciplines of social sciences, modern sciences, technologies and humanities in the years to come. It comprises huge library comprising collection of several books and journals for different disciplines. It also has rich collection of rare pristine books and ancient documents and relics.
Presently the universityhas 15 departments and offers courses at post graduate level in 17 courses that comprises MBA&MCA, Earther Science, Bio-technology, Bio-informatics, Human Resources, Humanities and Languages. In the year 2007-2008, the University introduced five year integrated M.Sc. courses in Earth Sciences and Bioinformatics. There are many other conventional courses introduced as in Electronic and communications, mechanical and electrical and electronics engineering, computer science and courses of civil.
