Aajkaal is a Bengali newspaper. It is based at Kolkata in West Bengal. Simultaneously the paper is also published from Siliguri, and Tripura. The newspaper was started by Abhik Kumar Ghosh in 1981 during the transformation of the Indian newspaper industry in the 1980s. Its evening edition is Sandhya Aajkaal. Aajkaal is making efforts to live on cut-throat competitive newspaper market in the state. It was created by its leftist perspective and sports news. Nowadays readers are coming back with negative feedback about the quality of its sports news section. Aajkaal is one of the very few newspapers in India which do not publish astrological predictions in printing. Recently the paper has vowed to makeover its format and incorporated more analytical features. The first editor of Aajkaal was Sri Gour Kishore Ghosh.
