Initially, the Planning Commission of India, a non-statutory body, started the Unique Identification Authority of India to ensure single identification to all in the country. Later it was launched in a tribal village, Tembhli in Shahada, Nandurbar in the state of Maharashtra. Mr. Manmohan Singh, the honourable prime minister, inaugurated UIDAI on 29 September 2010.

UIDIs’ headquarters are located at Delhi. Its technology centre is in Bangalore (now Bengaluru). The Unique Identification Authority of India is operating from eight regional offices: Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Ranchi, Mumbai, Guwahati and Hyderabad.Every citizen of India can apply for UIDAI Card irrespective of age and gender. It’s simple to obtain. Simply fill out a simple application for Unique Identification Authority of India. It takes after 20 days for enrolment. Then s/he comes to know about her/his current application status. Just enter the 14-digit enrolment number and 28-digit temporary Enrolment ID, date and time of enrolment and get the current status of your UIDAI.
