Earlierfamous as Arunachal University, Rajiv Gandhi University saw its inception in the year 1984 and is one of the oldest Universities in the state.It was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of the country Late Smt. Indira Gandhi.The educational institute is situated at Itanagar.
Prior to establishment of this University, the colleges of the state were affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University-North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. Currently there are approximate seven government degree colleges under the affiliation of Rajiv Gandhi University.
