Passport Office was established in George Town in Chennai (formerly Madras) in the year 1955. In the year 1966, it was shifted to the Govt. owned premises of Shastri Bhavan located at 26, Haddows Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai-600006, where a number of other Central Govt. Offices are also located. Initially, RPO, Chennai was catering to the needs of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry in addition to the neighbouring States of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. In 1976 separate passport offices for these three states were established. In the year 1983, RPO, Chennai was again bifurcated and a separate office was established at Trichy with its own jurisdiction. Passport Office, Chennai is primarily responsible for issuance of Indian Passports to the Citizens of India who are residing within its jurisdictional area. In addition to issue of passports, various other miscellaneous services like change of address in passport, additional endorsement regarding Emigration Check Not Required, Police Clearance Certificate, etc. are also being rendered by this office irrespective of the fact that the original passport is issued by Passport Office, Chennai or not, provided they stay in the area of jurisdiction of RPO Chennai.

    I finished appoinment on 22-12-2014 and police verification also done two weeks before but till I am not recevied my passport ,if I track my application status it showing that police verification is still in pending in regional passport office.My file number is MA3068161023714.please do needfull as soon as possible

    When I am applying passport online the pincode is not matching ,excisting pincode
    & I am living in chennai ( AVADI ) the pincode is 600054 ,
    But when i was applying through online ,
    pincode not found the region showing in pincode column,
    Hence i requesting you kindly give feedback ,to get the online appoinment

    The above is my son Terry Joshua Narendran's passport issued on23/02/2015 and valid up to 22/02/2025.
    While applying for this he was a student at Viruthunagar.
    Now the Address and his educational qualification has to be changed.
    What is the procedure?

    Hello... U have mentioned that an application can be cancelled twice in a year but there are no options to cancel an appointment. Could you please with this as soon as possible?
