Established on 12 February, 1991 by the renowned social activist Rashtrarishi Nanaji Deshmukh Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramoday University (MGCGV) aims to offer higher education to the people living in rural areas. The university was named the great freedom fighter, Mahatma Gandhi. It gives more importance on preparing man power dedicated to the upliftment of deprived and down-trodden people of the country.
To enlighten the future of the people and to realise Gandhiji’s dream of rural development, the university gives special emphasis and dedicate itself to provide better courses and facilities to the poor as well as other sections of the society. It provides several facilities including a central library, computer centre and mess to students as well as staff.
The main aims of the university are to give education and propagation of appropriate and latest technology to all. It offers courses in various subjects and has separate departments for each including Mass Communication, Agriculture, Fine Arts, Health Sciences, Engineering and Technology etc.
