Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, often referred to by his initials KCR, is an Indian politician serving as the first and current Chief Minister of Telangana since 2 June 2014. He is the founder and leader of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, a regional party in Telangana, India. He is known for leading the Telangana movement to achieve statehood for Telangana. Previously, he served as the Union Minister of Labour and Employment from 2004 to 2006. He represents Gajwel constituency in the Legislative Assembly of Telangana. Rao took oath as the first Chief Minister of Telangana in 2014 and was re-elected for the second term in 2018.

1980 : KCR joined Andhra Pradesh Youth Congress under the guidance of Sanjay Gandhi.


1983 : KCR joined Telugu Desam Party. 1982 KCR was elected as the Chairman of Raghavapur Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (P.A.C.S.), Siddipet. Simultaneously he became Vice President of Youth Congress. 


1985 : He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly as MLA from Siddipet constituency. 


1987 : Minister of State, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh (1987-88). 


1988 : Minister of Drought, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh (1988 - 89). 


1989 : He was re-elected to Assembly from Siddipet by defeating Ananthula Madan Mohan of INC. Later he became District Party President, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from 1989 to 1993.

2001 : He resigned from the Telugu Desam Party, Office of Deputy Speaker and as M.L.A. in 2001 and launched the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (T.R.S.). Also, he successfully contested the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections. 


2003 : He served as Convenor, New States National Front. 


2004 : He was elected to 14th Lok Sabha from Karimnagar. He defeated Chennamaneni Vidyasagara Rao (BJP). Later he became Union Cabinet Minister, Labour and Employment. 


2006 : He resigned from Lok Sabha on 23 Sept. 2006. Then re-elected to 14th Lok Sabha in bye-election on 7 Dec. 


2008 : Resigned from Lok Sabha on 3 March 2008. Again elected as MP in 2008 bypolls. 


2009 : He was elected to Loksabha from Mahabubnagar by defeating Devarakonda Vittal Rao (INC). Also he became Leader, Telangana Rashtra Samithi Parliamentary Party, Lok Sabha. And then Member, Standing Committee on Energy and Member, Rules Committee. 


2014 : After the separation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, he successfully contested assembly election from Gajwel and Medak. Moreover he was elected to Loksabha Also in 16th Loksabha Elections. But he resigned from LS and became chief minister of Telangana. 


2018 : On 6 September 2018, he dissolved TRS government in the state and resigned from the CM post.
